Deepika Podukone was born on 5th January, 1986 and is the eldest daughter of ace world champion badminton player Prakash Podukone and Ujjwala Podukone. Though born in Copenhagen, Denmark, her parents shifted their base to Manglore, where she grew up to become asultry model and now a famous Bollywood actress.
Like her father, she played badminton during her school days and even reached to the level of state player, but she was unsuccessful in taking her game to the national level. It was then she had discovered her passion towards glamorous world and she moved up making successful entries one after the other as a model and then an actress.
During her modeling days, she was endorsed by big brands like Liril soap, Limca, close-up toothpaste, Kingfisher airlines and several other products including international cosmetics giant Maybelline which made her their new international cover face.
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards for Indian models and designers held on 4th April, 2005, Deepika was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Soon after, she was chosen as a model for 2005 Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar, her sumptuous photographs appeared in that calendar earned her the reputation of a supermodel. After that ovation, she again bagged two more awards titled 'Female Model of the Year' award in commercial assignments category and 'Fresh Face of the Year' at Idea Zee Fashion F Awards.
Movie Career
Deepika Podukone entered the film industry through a kannada film “Aishwarya”, directed by Indrajit Lankesh co-starring Kannada hero Upendra in 2006. She was then appeared opposite to Saha Rukh Khan in a film Om Shanti Om (OSO), directed by Farah Khan, which was her debut Bollywood film. Her stunning role in OSO helped her bag Best Debut Actress award in Filmfare Awards ’08.
Now, it has been reported that there are big projects lined up in Deepika’s name and she has started charging more than 1 crore for her roles in a film. Undeterred of the cost, big producers are busy signing her for their upcoming projects. It seems lady luck is shining everywhere for this stunning actress. Recent buzz about the actress is that she has fallen in love with charming Ranbir Kapoor, dubut actor of Saawariya, and both are happy with their romantic liaison.
Her upcoming projects are Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), Chandni Chowk To China (2008), Chennayil Oru Mazhakkalam (2008).
